Ahead of the announcement, the Commission, including the CEC and the 4 commissioners met President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban in the afternoon yesterday. They briefed the president on preparations for the parliamentary election and the referendum.
The EC also had discussions with Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed on Tuesday and with Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Sunday.
The national election has been necessitated by the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government last year following the July revolution led by students. After Sheikh Hasina fled to India, an interim govt led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus is governing the country.
