Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced a new law on Saturday, 20th December, to punish anyone who insults any religion. He shared that the Congress-led state government wants to update current laws on those who abuse a religion.

Reddy said this law will be brought in during the next budget session of the Assembly. The goal is to stop religious hatred and punish people who insult other faiths.
Speaking at a government Christmas event in Hyderabad, Reddy made it clear that minorities should get all the benefits from welfare schemes. He also promised quick action on long-pending graveyard problems for Christians and Muslims.
CM credits Sonia for Telangana’s Christmas celebrations
Reddy called December a “Miracle Month” for Telangana and the Congress party. He noted that Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s birthday is on 9th December, and the state got its separate status in the same month too.
“Sonia Gandhi was born on 9th December. After many young people gave their lives for a separate Telangana, and even after Congress faced a big political loss in Andhra Pradesh, she delivered Telangana,” he said.
A video of Reddy’s speech from the event has spread widely on social media. In it, he states, “The reason we are celebrating the Christmas festival in Telangana is because of the contribution of Sonia Gandhi.”
These comments have sparked strong backlash from the opposition parties Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state.

The post read “Christmas is being celebrated here today due to the sacrifice and contribution of Sonia Gandhi. Revanth Reddy, CM of Congress, ruled Telangana. Next, we’ll be told the sun rises because of the Gandhi family. When sycophancy crosses all limits, everything is hijacked for political bootlicking.”
Meanwhile, BRS shared the same video clip and wrote, “Today everyone is celebrating Christmas only because of the sacrifice of Smt Sonia Gandhi, says Congress CM Revanth Reddy”
