Fact check: PIB exposes fake video of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat calling to ‘Saffronise’ Indian army

The Press Information Bureau fact check unit has debunked a viral video falsely claiming Mohan Bhagwat sought to saffronise the Indian Army

A video widely circulating on social media, claiming that RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to “saffronise” the Indian Army, has been declared fake by the government. The Press Information Bureau’s fact-check wing said that the video has been edited to mislead people.

In the viral video, Bhagwat is heard saying that the Indian Army must be “kept pure” and therefore “saffronised”, and that more than 50 % of “non-caste Hindus” should be removed from the force by 2028. The voice in the clip also claims that he warned the Prime Minister that if this did not happen, “Modi will go and Yogi will come.” These statements are fabricated.

The PIB stated that the video is edited and the audio has been changed to create a false narrative. In a post on X, the fact-checking team clarified that Bhagwat never made such statements and asked people not to believe or share the clip. The post also shared a link to the original speech to show what was actually said.

In the original video, Bhagwat is heard saying that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) should not be judged through the lens of the BJP. He says that if a person wants to understand the Sangh, they must look at the organisation directly and experience it, rather than forming opinions based only on appearances.

The PIB has warned that such edited videos are being deliberately edited to confuse and mislead the public. It appealed to users to stay alert and report any misleading or manipulated content they come across, so that misinformation can be stopped from spreading further.
