Delhi police informs court that Congress workers, who created ruckus during AI Impact Summit, wanted to defame India internationally, stir Nepal-like protest

On Saturday (21st February), the Delhi police informed the court that the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) workers, who created a ruckus at the AI Impact Summit, wanted to stir a protest similar to that in Nepal.

The police stated that the IYC workers wanted to defame India internationally during the event, which hosted several tech giant CEOs and world leaders.

It must be mentioned that the Delhi police had arrested 4 Congress members, who carried out a shirtless demonstration during the AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam and raised political slogans on Friday (20th February).

The court sent the accused to a 5-day police remand. The lawyer representing the 4 accused tried to justify their action in court as ‘right to protest’. “The protest was peaceful; no videos showed any violence,” he claimed.

“There should be a reason for custody. They are young, they have careers, and political dissent shouldn’t be crushed like this. It was a peaceful protest,” the lawyer further alleged.

The police sought their remand by highlighting anti-national sloganeering in the presence of dignitaries and international leaders. “Their custody is necessary to arrest other accused who fled,” the public prosecutor said.

It must be mentioned that at least 3 cops were injured during the scuffle with the Indian Youth Congress workers. The police are now recovering their mobile phones to ascertain whether they received funding.
